Grilled Tuna with Mango Salsa has become one of my favorite go-to summer dinners! It took me quite a few tries to figure out the best way to cook the tuna but I finally figured it out. In my opinion tuna definitely needs a marinade and a soy sauce based marinade really elevates the flavor of the dish. I have tried cooking the tuna on the grill and in a pan and, while I prefer the grill, both ways will work as long as it is cooked over very high heat. The best thing about this dish is that the mango salsa can be prepped ahead of time and the tuna only takes about 4 minutes to cook. Quick, easy and delicious! Give this recipe a try, I promise you will not be disappointed!

Serves 2

Tuna Ingredients:

2 Tuna Filets

3 tbsp Soy Sauce

1 tbsp Olive Oil

1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

1 tsp Coconut Sugar

1 tsp of Lime Zest (save the lime for another time!)

Dash of Salt and Pepper

1. Combine marinade ingredients and tuna filets in a plastic bag and marinate in the refrigerator for at least two hours. If you are using frozen tuna you can marinate it while it is thawing.

2. Prep Mango Salsa

3. Turn the grill to high heat and let it warm up. It should be around 450 to 500 degrees. Carefully spray the grill with grill spray or use a paper towel dipped in oil to oil the grates.

4. Place the tuna on the grill and cook for 1 and a half minutes on each side. If you want to get the criss-cross grill marks you can rotate the filet 90 degrees at the 45 second mark.

5. When tuna is cooked to your liking take it off the grill and slice it across the grain. Top with mango salsa and enjoy!

Tips: I typically buy frozen wild caught ahi tuna steaks from Trader Joe’s. They are very reasonably priced and have always turned out great for me. If I happen to be at Whole Foods I will pick up fresh tuna steaks there, but make sure to cook them that night. Right before you cook the tuna you can roll it in sesame seeds if you want! The marinade helps the sesame seeds stick to the filet and it is a fun addition to the dish. I like to keep my tuna very rare but you can add as much time on the grill as you want.
